Impacting Youth Through the Decades is the theme for this year’s gala. We will honor and celebrate the positive influences who have nurtured, supported, and shaped generations of young people in the Chinatown community and the greater San Francisco Bay Area.
Every year, over 500 supporters reconnect with old friends, meet new people who share our beliefs, and learn more about our programs.
Come join us for a night of reunion, celebration, and dance. We look forward to seeing you there!
We’ll have lots of fun auction items to bid on – all for a great cause – making a positive impact on the low-income immigrant youth and families that we serve with love and compassion every day!

2018 Recipients of the Donaldina Cameron Award for Excellence in Leadership & Service
Chinatown YMCA/Ford Lee
The Chinatown YMCA opened their doors on July 11, 1911, serving the young men of Chinatown with lectures on health, education, and religion. Over the last 106 years, the mission of the Chinatown YMCA has not changed, focusing on building a healthy community through the development of young people in spirit, mind, and body.
In 1950 Ford Lee helped form the first men’s service club, called the ARO’s. Aside from being involved in numerous programs & activities at the Y, Ford headed the capital project committee to build the new Chinatown YMCA, which was completed in 2010. The current Chinatown Y Executive Director, Kari Lee, is Ford’s daughter.
Dr. Dennis Chew
Dr. Dennis Chew has earned recognitions and awards from the Asian Heritage Awards, Chinese Consulate in San Francisco, Association of Chinese Teachers (Teacher of the Year), Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association, and Chinese Consolidation Women’s Association (Outstanding Overseas Chinese Honoree), but his greatest pride are the most recent awards for Gordon J. Lau Elementary School! Under Dr. Chew, Gordon J. Lau Elementary School earned the California Business for Education Excellence Award, Physical Education/Nutrition Award, Exemplary Arts Award and most importantly, the California Department of Education Gold Ribbon Award. Dr. Dennis Chew retired in 2017.
Cameron House Women’s Guild/Mary Wong Leong
In the past fifty years, the Guild has been an ardent supporter of Cameron House, helping to fund our unexpected needs (i.e., blankets for Light the Night and a new copier for CH) and lend a hand. Not only have they financially supported our programs, they’ve volunteered more hours than can be possibly be counted. For many years they lovingly sewed hundreds of Summer Camp scarves. They were the movers and shakers behind Carnival, spending hours sorting, cleaning, and pricing all the White Elephant items; providing homemade baked goods to sell; and then working from the wee hours of the morning until midnight every first Saturday in May. The Guild retired in October 2017.
For decades, Mary Wong Leong was our staff liaison for the Women’s Guild. In addition to that role, Mary worked at Cameron House for over 20 years and participated in a multitude of CH/PCC programs & events. She retired in the summer of 2017.
