Finding Strength Together: Our Chinese Cancer Support Group 華語癌症互助組

When facing cancer, treatments often bring fatigue, depression, and profound loneliness. This is precisely where our cancer support group makes a difference. We welcome both women and men to join us, creating a space where patients can find comfort and share their experiences, feelings, and concerns in their native language.

When people go through similar challenges, connecting and supporting each other can help make daily life become more manageable. Community is incredibly beneficial for mental health, which is why we emphasize the importance of mind-body connection. The influence our thoughts have on our wellbeing is powerful, and scientific research confirms that critically ill patients show significant improvement when their social needs are addressed alongside various self-care techniques.

Members share valuable resources such as healing recipes based on Asian cuisine, mindfulness practices, meditation techniques, and cancer resources available in Chinese. If someone is hospitalized and unable to attend meetings, we organize visits to ensure they remain supported and surrounded by people who genuinely care.

Our Cancer Support Group has transformed lives, creating an uplifting environment where fear diminishes and hope grows.

Established in 1995, we were the first Chinese Cancer Support Group in San Francisco, with our largest group reaching 50 members. While approximately 87% of our members are women (with breast cancer being most common, followed by lung and liver cancer), we warmly welcome male patients to join! We cultivate a friendly, supportive atmosphere where everyone is encouraged to express their worries and emotions.
