Our Summer Leadership Development Program (SLDP) is geared towards students entering the 9th grade in the Fall of 2017 or older, who want to receive training in youth work and leadership development, and seize the opportunity to practice their skills in a safe environment. Summer Leaders will develop a sense of self and confidence in leadership as they participate in and contribute to our summer community. Time and project management, leading activities (games, songs, and crafts for 1st-8th graders), and learning how to communicate and work as a team are all valuable experiences that nurture growth and maturity. This program should also be included in college applications, job resumes and for fulfilling school service hour requirements.

Summer Internship Program (SIP)

Earn $600 as a Summer Intern!

We are offering the Summer Internship Program (SIP) for those interested in expanding upon their leadership experience at Cameron House. SIP Leaders will gain professional development through in-depth planning, leading enrichment based curriculum, and supporting fellow department leaders in their growth and development. One SIP Leader will be assigned per department, and will report to the Youth Leadership Development Programs Coordinator as well as their Department Coordinator.

If accepted, SIP Leaders will receive a $600 maximum stipend upon satisfactory completion of all program responsibilities.

Minimum Requirements

  • Entering the 9th Grade in Fall 2017
  • Completed submission of Summer Leadership Development Program Application Packet by Friday, April 28, 2017 [pdf]
    • SLDP Registration Form
    • Youth Ministries Information Form for June 2017 – May 2018 with authorized signatures
    • Brief typed letter of introduction (max one page) describing 1) Who you are, 2) What strengths, skills, and talents you would bring, and 3) Your goal for a summer at Cameron House
    • Reference letter from someone other than a parent, guardian, relative, or friend (This requirement is only for first time applicants)
    • Application & program fees
      • $150 for first year applicants
      • $100 for second year leaders
      • $50 for third year+
      • If for any reason you are not accepted into the program, or choose not to be a summer leader, this fee is refundable minus a $35 Application Fee
        • A $10 late fee applies if completed Summer Leadership Development Program Application Packet is not received by April 28th
        • We will not turn away anyone for lack of funds, so please contact us should this fee be a hardship.

Friday, March 24th – Summer Leader Application Orientation at Cameron House (CH), 920 Sacramento Street, SF, CA, 94108, 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Come and learn about the different volunteer opportunities. This optional gathering is beneficial for incoming 9th graders, and all new and interested youth and/or their parents.




Saturday, May 13th – Summer Leader Orientation at Cameron House, 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

This is a mandatory event for all interested applicants.  During the leader orientation, applicants will get an idea of our program as well as meet our summer staff.  Applicants will go through a series of activities that will assist staff in determining placement of applicants in our program.


Monday, June 5th through Friday, June 9th, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. – Training week in Programs and Departments

Sunday, June 11th – Summer Commissioning at the Presbyterian Church in Chinatown, 925 Stockton St., San Francisco, 94108, from 10:45 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Monday, June 12th – First day of Summer Programs!

Tuesday Planning Nights: MANDATORY planning sessions at Cameron House until 6:30 p.m.
Tuesday Night Fellowships: OPTIONAL activities at Cameron House; 6:30 p.m.- 10:00 p.m.

July 3rd – Professional Development day for Summer Leaders and Staff; 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

July 4th – Independence Day Holiday Observed.  NO PROGRAM.

Monday, July 17th – BYP Family Night; 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Wednesday, July 19th – Ventures Family Night; 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Wednesday, July 26th – Solid Ground Program Family Night; 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Friday, July 28th – Last day of summer programming

TBD – Mass Clean-Up

Sunday, July 30th – Youth Worship at the Presbyterian Church in Chinatown at 10:45 a.m.; End of Summer Service Party (place and time to be determined)

Leader Placement

Three areas of summer leader opportunities are available. All programs run for seven weeks from June 12 – July 28, with important events before and after.   We will take your preferences into account, but we will need to consider the needs of each program and our ministries as a whole. All the programs will typically operate under the same daily schedule.

Offering academic support and recreational activities to recent immigrant youth from the Chinatown area, BYP Leaders will work in teams (Departments) with a Coordinator. They will spend the first half of the day at Cameron House assisting their Coordinator in leading academic enrichment in English, Math, Science and other subjects that are engaging and fun.  During the other half of the program, leaders will lead outdoor recreation, songs, crafts, and devotions in our yards and nearby parks. BYP Leaders will also assist in supervising weekly field trips around the City, cookouts and other activities.   BYP Leaders report only to the Cameron House site.  You do NOT need to be bilingual to apply, but it is an asset to be able to speak Cantonese or Mandarin to better relate with some of the youth!

Cameron Ventures has provided generations of children with a safe and rewarding summer experience for over 60 years! With an emphasis on community building, campers are challenged to grow through participation in games, songs, field trips, devotions, cookouts, arts & crafts, and other exciting educational and recreational activities. This program gives youth the opportunity to be active outdoors, try new things, make new friends, and build healthy relationships with older youth leaders. Weekly field trips and special activities encourage students to get better acquainted with the city and to have new experiences. Through every activity, we strive to teach youth the importance and value of self-esteem, friendship, teamwork, and community.

SOLID GROUND (Grades 6 – 8)
A unique blend of our other programs, this middle school program offers youth an opportunity to grow through community service projects, leadership development activities, and academic enrichment.  Solid Ground leaders will help plan and implement mostly outdoor activities that are engaging, educational, and encouraging of youth to become well-rounded citizens. Leaders will also supervise field trips, cook-outs, community service projects, and overnight camping trips.  Leaders for the 8th grade department will also help to support the civic engagement portions of the program.
