DESCRIPTION:In light of Junteenth\, join us for an afternoon of connection\, conversation\, and community\, followed by a dynamic panel discussion featuring distinguished voices from across the arts\, nonprofit\, and public sectors. \n​Featuring a 45-minute panel conversation with renowned musicians\, academics\, writer\, nonprofit leaders\, and racial equity advocates exploring what coalition building looks like across culture\, community\, and government\, centering Asian American perspectives on solidarity\, civic engagement\, and cross-community partnership. The Office of Racial Equity has authority to enact a citywide Racial Equity Framework\, to direct Departments of the City and County of San Francisco to develop and implement mandated Racial Equity Action Plans\, and to analyze the disparate impacts of pending ordinances\, as well as various other policy and reporting functions. \n​Sarah Tseng has over a decade of experience working as an urban planner for federal\, regional\, and local government agencies\, and organizing with grassroots community groups. \n​Francis Wong \nMusician\, Activist\, Professor \n​His work embodies deep intercultural collaboration and a belief that music can affirm humanity\, identity\, and collective liberation across communities. Influenced by African American jazz traditions and the AACM’s vision of improvisation as cross-cultural dialogue\, Wong has built artistic partnerships that bridge Asian American\, Black\, and other cultural experiences through shared creativity and mutual respect. His collaborations across music\, poetry\, and community arts reflect a lifelong commitment to solidarity\, cultural exchange\, and using art as a space for empowerment and coalition building. Throughout his career\, Wong has also helped numerous Asian American small-to-medium non-profits that focus on the arts\, culture and heritage. \n​Dr. Scott Oshiro\n \nFlautist\, Electronic Musician\, Researcher \nAs an African and Okinawan American\, Scott’s creative and academic work incorporates musical elements from his heritage and combines them with Jazz\, Hip Hop and Electronic music. He is an Asian Improv aRt 2023 Fellow\, and a 5th year PhD student at the Center for Computer Research in Music & Acoustics at Stanford University\, where he researches the intersection of quantum computing\, music\, and culture. \n​Rae Alexandra \nKQED Staff Writer\, Author \n​She is a Reporter/Producer for KQED Arts & Culture\, and the creator/author of the Rebel Girls From Bay Area History and Bizarre Bay Area series. Her debut book\, Unsung Heroines: 35 Women Who Changed the Bay Area was published by City Lights in March 2026. In 2023\, Rae was awarded an SPJ Excellence in Journalism Award for Arts & Culture. \n​Shilpa Sahoo \nFlorence Fang Community Farm\, Executive Director \n​She is currently the Executive Director of Florence Fang Community Farm. FFCF is deeply committed to honoring the shared histories and traditions of Black and Asian agricultural practices through community farming\, education\, and land stewardship. Her work highlights how farming can serve as a space for cultural preservation\, food justice\, and cross-community solidarity rooted in collective care and resilience. \n​Who should come? Artists\, organizers\, students\, culture shapers\, public servants\, advocates\, neighbors\, and anyone curious about how we build stronger communities together. SUMMARY:Volunteer for One City Day of Service\, July 11\, at Cameron House
DESCRIPTION:Join Cameron House and Asians Are Strong for One City Day of Service. \nOn Saturday\, July 11\, San Francisco will come together for One City Day\, a citywide day of service led by First Lady Becca Prowda and Mayor Daniel Lurie. Click on the button to volunteer—space is limited! \nCameron House and Asians Are Strong will lead volunteers in assembling care kits\, writing words of encouragement\, participating in reflection activities\, learning about the signs of intimate partner violence\, and taking part in a personal safety workshop. \nThis is an opportunity to support survivors of domestic violence and hardship. \nSign Up to Volunteer via their Official Website \nParticipate as an individual volunteer or organize a group to serve together. Either way\, sign up early\, as space is limited. The Cameron House parking lot will have limited spots available for volunteers and will prioritize those with disabled placards and mobility accessibility needs. Volunteers are encouraged to take public transit\, carpool\, or rideshare. \nThe Day of Service will begin with a self-defense class led by Tuff Love\, a nonprofit organization committed to transforming lives and communities through the power of self-defense and martial arts. \nNext\, Hudson Liao from Asians Are Strong will lead a practical session on the safe and effective use of pepper spray for personal safety. \nThe final portion of the program will focus on domestic violence awareness and community support. Our very own Cameron House staff will discuss the signs of domestic violence and share guidance on how to support friends\, family members\, and colleagues who may be experiencing abuse. \nWe will conclude with an interactive conversation featuring Zeien Cheung\, from Asian Women Are Strong\, who will facilitate a discussion on women empowerment and community care. \nDue to the sensitive nature of the conversation and the level of attention required for the activities\, this event is intended for participants and volunteers who are 18 years of age or older. \n______________________________________________________ \nOptional District 3 Kickoff Event: Volunteers are welcome to attend the District 3 kickoff at Pioneer Park (1 Telegraph Hill Blvd) at 9:00 a.m. Participants may receive a One City Day t-shirt and hear remarks from local leaders. Please note that Cameron House’s project promptly begins at 10:00 a.m.\, so plan travel time accordingly (approximately 10 minutes by car\, 18 minutes by transit\, or 25 minutes walking). Tea\, coffee and light snacks will be provided. \nOptional Post-Service Gathering: Becca Prowda’s team is also organizing a District 3 post-volunteering gathering. Location is still TBD\, and we’ll share details at the volunteer event and on social media before July 11.
